This is a necessary step that the Israeli FA had to take.

It's so sad that Hamas resorts to attacking a symbol of hope like soccer, but I guess it must have been expected. Israel has declared that they are prepared to wipe Hamas out if they must. I don't like talk like this, but sometimes it is necessary to kill the villains of humanity.

Because every missile that ends up in Palestine ends up getting shot at Israel. And Israel has every right to defend itself from threats to its existence.

And if Israel is as willing to go the distance as they appear to be, Hamas will be doomed to die within the very near future.

I don't understand the purpose of this rule. Why would a team only be allowed to field one player who had represented another team in the UEFA Cup earlier in this season?

Eh, Gerrard probably had one or two drinks too many and someone said something to him that he took personally, or he said something to someone else that they took too personally, and it just escalated from there. Alcohol can do weird things to people.

I'm sure Gerrard will be fine physically. The problem is whether he will be facing charges now. Section 20 assault has a maximum prison term of 5 years, but even if found guilty, there's no way Gerrard is getting that long a jail term (unless the judge supports Chelsea or Everton, of course), as he has no prior criminal record and has been an upstanding citizen for the most part.

It is unacceptable for athletes to throw punches if that's not what they're being paid for, but for God's sake, if you must do it, do it to the other team's athletes and not your own! How stupid can you be?

Great result for Fulham, and for Dempsey in particular. Nine straight games now without a loss, and that's the important thing for Fulham. Keep racking up points and avoiding relegation troubles. Fulham could probably draw their remaining 19 games and avoid relegation easily (in that case, Fulham would end up with 45 points, which is almost certainly enough to avoid relegation comfortably). And Dempsey is proving his worth as both a Premier League player and a member of the US National Team.

On the other hand, Chelsea should be extremely disappointed with this result. Yes, it is tough to win on the road, but Chelsea should have won this game easily. They should not have trailed after 10 minutes and they should not have settled for a draw against their West London rivals. However, lets not say that their Premier League title hopes are finished yet. Still 18 games to go for both Liverpool and Chelsea and only three points between them. This race is far from finished.

The English National Team has definitely looked impressive this year. That 1-4 thumping they gave Croatia in Croatia is proof that England have the ability to compete for, and possibly win, the World Cup.

However, lets not get ahead of ourselves and start mentioning the late Sir Alf Ramsey in the same sentence as Fabio Capello. South Africa is still over a year away and England haven't even punched their ticket yet anyway. It would be best not to raise English hopes too high. England will almost certainly qualify to go to South Africa, but once there, anything can happen. Three off matches, and it can be all over all too soon. For now, England needs to focus on beating Spain in Seville on February 11.

ITalkSense, let me clarify some things. First of all, I do not support England. I cheer for the Red, White, and Blue. I support the US National Team. And we will perform well in South Africa in 2010.

Secondly, from what I understand, Croatia is one of the best national teams in UEFA. They made it to the quarterfinals of EURO 2008 and only missed the semifinals on a second come-from-behind Turkish miracle. According to the initial seedings, Croatia were supposed to win their World Cup Qualifying group, with England in second. It wasn't that England beat Croatia. They annihilated Croatia in a stadium where Croatia had never lost a competitive fixture in their history (brief as it is). And in their last game, England beat Germany in Germany, which is never easy. This England squad had improved from the one which couldn't qualify to EURO 2008.

I didn't say England will win the World Cup. As a matter of fact, I don't think England will win it in 2010. There are obviously better teams around (Brazil, Argentina, Spain, etc.). However, in a short span, anything can happen. England could win the World Cup.

However, Capello is right to deflect this kind of distraction and continue to focus on how to beat the reigning European champions.

Going to take a bit of getting used to, but I'm sure this will work for me.
