After tonight’s 4-1 win against Malaga, FC Barcelona move to the top of the Primera Liga for the first time this season, even if it is only for twenty four hours.

This was their eleventh consecutive win in all competitions. The match was played in heavy rain and on a waterlogged field. The first goal came in the sixth minute from a Xavi curling free kick. Malaga responded seven minutes later after an Adrian Lopez shot was palmed away by goalkeeper Valdes only as far as Duda whose shot screamed into the top corner of the net. A combination of a defensive blunder and a good shot from Lionel Messi restored the lead just a few minutes later. Just after half time Barcelona increased their lead when a pin-point cross from Samuel Eto’o found Thierry Henry. He headed on to an unmarked Xavi who easily beat Arnau.

From that point onwards it was one-way traffic. The final goal came in the eightieth minute when Robson deflected an Alves free kick into his own net.
